Time at the beach...

I like this picture that Mark took of Bronwyn. It shows her determination. She also looks like a little tarzan. On Friday, we had a trip to the beach and she tried very hard to climb a large beached tree-trunk that sits on Locarno beach. She couldn't do it and cried because she was so disappointed in herself. I said we could go back on Saturday for another try. And she did it!

This is the gnarly tree root that has been washed up and smoothed out....

We had a good weekend. Everyone was healthy, that is in itself a good weekend (considering what we have been through lately). We had a fun trip to Locarno beach on Saturday (otherwise known as "the doggy beach").

In the afternoon, I took Bronwyn to a really nice kid's swimming/paddling pool nearby, Marpole Pool. We had great fun. I really enjoy the times that we get to play together one on one.

Sunday we took a trip to our "regular" beach. The wind brought the temperature down, but it was a fun trip. Here we are looking for unusual pebbles...
I have described this beach before...miles of rugged coastline with hardly any people. On Sunday a strange thing happened...we had set up at a sandy spot on the beach and a couple walked by. Obviously, they considered this to be "their" spot on the beach. So...with no other people for as far as you could see, they set up their chairs right beside us...then they proceeded to smoke cigarettes and light a great big joint that blew across to us and the kids. Who does that? Mark took a picture...no one on the beach and they put their chairs...facing away...right beside us. How obnoxious....and kind of strange.

They are a middle-aged, sun-dried couple that we have seen before and obviously they think they own that bit of the beach and so were put-out that we were there. But, seriously, it's not a crowded beach! We debated whether to say something. But there wouldn't have been much point except to create bad feeling and ruin our stay. To be honest, it's all part and parcel of life in Vancouver. Aside from those weirdos (and there are quite a few strange folk down there - so it's more surprising that we haven't had more weird incidents....) we had a good time. River was tired and decided to take a nap...on me! He is actually asleep in this picture. Awwww.
